| Joey DuMouchel Scholarship Fund |
In May of 2003, students in the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) class from Joey's school at Windham High School, Windham CT held the first annual scholarship softball game. All of the players solicited sponsors to raise money for the event. The second annual game was played in May of 2004, again raising a substantial amount of money. The Jascowskis' worked with the DECA teacher, Patty King, and Principal Gene Blain deciding the criteria for the scholarship recipient. The recipient must: be a DECA student of at least two years (Joey was in his third year of DECA) be an honor student (Joey was honors all through high school) be accepted by or waiting for acceptance by a continuing education program, such as a college or university obtain three letters of recommendation write an essay including all of the following: what school they would like to go to (or are going to), what they would like to major in, what they want to do after college with their degree and how this money will help them to obtain their dream (Joey wanted to go to North Carolina for college and become a pro baseball player for the New York Yankees. He was already being scouted, even as a Junior). The first Joey DuMouchel Scholarship Fund Award was given out in June of 2004 to a member of his graduating class. The Jascowskis' were present at Windham's Awards Ceremonies to present to the first recipient. They were very pleased to present the $1,000 award to one of Joey's close friends and fellow baseball player, Bernie "BJ" Perkins, who will be going to North Carolina to pursue a career in law.
